Bleau Boards — Fontainebleau Miami Beach
In December 2023, I was commissioned by Fontainebleau Miami Beach to transform three photos of Frank Sinatra during his time at Fontainebleau into oil paintings on real surfboards. This collaborative project was unveiled as Fontainebleau's primary Art Basel exhibition.
Fontainebleau Miami Beach stands as one of Miami’s most iconic hotels, with a rich history closely tied to Frank Sinatra. Sinatra frequently performed at the hotel’s La Ronde Supper Club, vacationed on the property, and filmed renowned movies there—including A Hole in the Head, Tony Rome, and Lady in Cement. He also broadcasted four episodes of his TV show, The Frank Sinatra Timex Hour, from the resort. He remains a beloved part of the Fontainebleau legacy.
This project was unveiled at an event at Fontainebleau's Bleau Bar during Miami Art Week. The results were one eight-foot-tall and two six-foot-tall oil paintings on a not-so-traditional canvas: fiberglass surfboards!
One of the Bleau Boards lives on property, while another was part of a social media giveaway, and the final was sold for $10,000—all proceeds were donated to the Hawaii Community Foundation, specifically benefitting Maui wildfire relief.
